  • ReNew Power has entered a power purchase agreement with Microsoft India
  • The deal is for 150 MW commissioned solar PV facility located near Rajasthan’s Bikaner
  • ReNew calls it one of the largest such renewable energy agreements in India

Indian renewable energy company ReNew Power has announced signing a power purchase agreement for 150 MW solar PV capacity near Rajasthan’s Bikaner with the Indian presence of global technology giant, Microsoft India.

Calling it one of the largest such deals in India to date, ReNew says this capacity will be sourced from a recently commissioned solar PV project of the company near Bikaner district in Rajasthan.

According to ReNew, the deal points at growing interest among corporates in India and globally in integrating renewable energy into their operations in every form. It will also back innovative models for energy transition. Recently, the company was contracted by Jindal Stainless Steel to build a 300 MW utility scale captive solar and wind energy project in Odisha (see India PV News Snippets).

“Microsoft is striving to run 100% on renewable energy by 2025 and turn carbon negative by 2030. We are happy to partner with ReNew Power to meet our sustainability targets, and to also help our customers and partners on their sustainability journey,” said Microsoft India’s National Technology Officer Dr. Rohini Srivathsa.

Microsoft is one of the top 5 corporate solar offtakers in the US with a total contracted capacity of 551, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) (see US Corporate Solar Contracted Capacity Now Nearly 19 GW Strong).
