- Lukoil has energized a 20 MW solar power plant at its Volgograd oil refinery location
- It is expected to generate 24.5 million kWh clean energy annually which will be supplied to the wholesale electricity and capacity market at a special price under a 15-year contract
- Project will be operated by Lukoil’s renewables business division that’s also operating the company’s 1st solar project with 10 MW capacity
Publicly traded Russian oil and gas production company Lukoil has commissioned the company’s 2nd solar park with 20 MW capacity with the help of Hevel Group that acted as the module supplier as well as EPC contractor for the project.
Hevel Group shared with TaiyangNews that the company has deployed around 60,000 polycrystalline solar modules with a power output of 330W and 335W for the project that’s spread on 50-hectare land.
Located in the southern Volgograd region of Russia, Lukoil said the 20 MW solar power plant was built at its oil refinery on 17 sites not used by the company for its core operations. It is expected to generate 24.5 million kWh clean energy annually to bring down the group’s CO2 emissions by 12,000 tons per year.
Lukoil said its specially formed renewables division will operate the project along with the company’s 1st solar power facility having 10 MW capacity that came online in 2018.
The oil producer had previously said power generated by the 20 MW plant will be supplied to the wholesale electricity and capacity market at a special price under a 15-year contract.
Apart from the 30 MW solar capacity, Lukoil also has solar power plants in Russia’s Volgograd, and in Romania and Bulgaria with an aggregate capacity of over 20 MW.
