Saint-Gobain has partnered with Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) company Megasol. As per the agreement, Saint-Gobain has acquired a minority stake in the business unit of Megasol that develops and manufactures building-integrated photovoltaics at Deitingen in Switzerland.
With this move, Saint-Gobain will be able to extend its sustainable solutions offer for facades, while Megasol will get access to Saint-Gobain’s customer base. This acquisition will also enable Saint Gobain to become the leading provider for BIPV façade solutions in Europe.
Expressing happiness at the acquisition, CEO Saint-Gobain Switzerland Patrick Maier said, “Thanks to the aesthetic design of Megasol’s products, its fully customized and, at the same time, industrialized production, we are extending the scope of our applications allowing significant growth for Saint-Gobain’s total facade solutions.
Echoing similar sentiments, CEO of Megasol Markus Gisler said, “With its sustainability strategy and immense expertise in glass and building envelopes, as well as its global presence, Saint-Gobain is the perfect partner to rapidly scale our business with our active solar building materials.”
BIPV solutions are making important contribution to sustainable construction and decarbonization, and has been diligently producing energy on roofs and vertical façades of buildings. With less embodied carbon and lower energy requirements for a building in use, these façade systems provide high performance with reduced carbon impact. This has led to BIPV façade to become one of the fastest growing segments of façade construction.
