  • Tata Power Solar says it will build India’s largest utility scale battery storage project
  • It has been awarded the LOA by SECI to provide EPC services for 100 MW solar and 120 MWh storage facility
  • The project will be located in Chhattisgarh and realized within 18 months for INR 9.45 billion investment

Indian solar company Tata Power Solar Systems Limited will build the country’s ‘largest’ utility scale battery energy storage project (BESS) with 120 MWh capacity to be realized with a 100 MW solar PV plant. The company has been issued a letter of award (LOA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for the same.

As the EPC service provider of the facility, Tata Power Solar will design, engineer, supply, construct, erect and commission the capacity along with providing operation and maintenance (O&M) services.

Project sites are located in the state of Chhattisgarh, said Tata Power Solar. It aims to bring the INR 9.45 billion ($126 million) facility online within 18 months duration.

With this LOA, Tata Power Solar counts its utility scale EPC orders to have grown to around 4.4 GW DC capacity. It has a portfolio of over 7 GW of ground mounted utility scale facilities and more than 750 MW of rooftop and distributed generation facilities. The company also operates 530 MW of solar cell and 580 MW of module production capacity in Bengaluru, Karnataka (see Tata Power Solar Expands Solar Cell & Module Capacity).

SECI had launched the call for an EPC provider for 100 MW AC solar PV project in Chhattisgarh in July 2021 for which it wanted a minimum of 50% locally sourced solar modules and inverters (see SECI Launches 100 MW AC Solar PV EPC Tender).
